The Sliver of Terror

Wondrous Item (Soul Shard), Legendary (Requires Attunement)

This shard holds the essence of Diablo, the Lord of Terror, instilling fear and agony in those it touches.

Abilities:

  • Aura of Terror: Creatures within 30 feet must make a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. Recharges after a long rest.
  • Hellfire Touch: Melee attacks deal an extra 3d6 fire damage, and the target must make a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw or be set ablaze, taking 2d6 fire damage at the start of each of their turns.
  • Infernal Flame: Cast fireball at 5th level without using a spell slot (DC 19). Recharges after a short rest.

Cursed Power:

Each time the wielder kills a creature, they must make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be compelled to attack the nearest ally.

Awakened Power:

When the wielder is reduced to 0 hit points, they can instead drop to 1 hit point and release a burst of flame, dealing 6d6 fire damage to all creatures within 20 feet. Usable once per week.

Destroying the Sliver of Terror:

It can be destroyed by submerging it in the molten core of a dormant volcano while the wielder endures the flames without protection.
